Kitchens for Good is where “Food changes lives.” They’ve been delivering food to needy families since 2014. But they’ve always sought to do more. KFG wants to enable those who suffer from hunger and food insecurity to reach economic self-sufficiency. At KFG, apprentices who have experienced previous trauma or barriers to employment train to become chefs and bakers. That was until the COVID-19 pandemic decimated nearly 80,000 food industry jobs in San Diego alone.
The pandemic led to an identity crisis. Were they no longer viable with restaurants shuttered and no large catering events on the horizon? It was in this moment, the nonprofit was selected as a San Diego Social Venture Partners Investee. SVP helped the organization strengthen its identity through sustainable, adaptive programming, the kind of programming that can withstand a pandemic.
