New Trustee
The Judith Binney Trust is pleased to welcome our newest trustee: Matariki Williams (Ngāi Tūhoe, Ngāti Hauiti, Taranaki, Ngāti Whakaue).
Matariki is Pou Matua Mātauranga Māori | Senior Historian, Mātauranga Māori at Manatū Taonga, a curator, writer and editor in the arts and cultural sector. Previously she was a Curator Mātauranga Māori at Te Papa Tongarewa where she co-authored the award-winning book Protest Tautohetohe: Objects of Resistance, Persistence and Defiance with Puawai Cairns and Stephanie Gibson.
Her love of ngā toi Māori led to the founding of ATE Journal of Māori Art with Bridget Reweti.
Matariki is on the editorial board of the Turnbull Library Record journal and the Programming and Acquisitions Committee for the New Zealand Portrait Gallery | Te Pūkenga Whakaata.
Her writing has appeared in print publications including Declaration: A Pacific Feminist Agenda, Māori Moving Image, Te Manu Huna a Tāne, Climates. Habitats. Environments., and online publications including frieze, Art in America, Pantograph Punch, and e-Tangata.
