This issue includes a couple of funding opportunities as well as interesting reading material you may enjoy. The last month of summer included the celebration of World Humanitarian Day, a moment to reflect on achievements and challenges in providing humanitarian assistance in a world where the size and complexity of emergencies is increasing considerably. We want to take this opportunity to express our gratitude to everyone who has dedicated their lives and efforts to provide support to those hit by conflicts, disasters and other forms of emergencies, and recognize the great progress in inclusion of persons with disabilities in humanitarian response.

We hope you enjoy the last days of summer, and look forward to many opportunities of collaboration and exchange with you in fall.

The Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS) is currently being revised. It is a key quality and accountability framework for the humanitarian sector. The aim is to build on the current standard, to reconfirm the core commitments it makes to affected people, and to make it more concise and user-friendly for all humanitarian actors. Certain themes will need to be strengthened and new ones added.

The DRG has committed to engage with the CHS revision process and to identify how disability inclusion can be referenced more strongly – possibly in conjunction with other inclusion themes. In a presentation from the CHS Alliance, various ways of engaging with the revision process were proposed: 

• Provide feedback on the current text of the standard (see www.corehumanitarianstandard.org/chs-revision). 
• Engage in the consultation on Draft 1 of the updated standard in a few regional consultation meetings organised around April – June of 2023.

This grant making portal is seeking concept note applications from women-led WROs in the global south and feminist organisations (including organizations of women with disabilities) to apply for a 3-year grant to pilot innovations on how to prevent violence against women and girls.

This paper explored the challenges faced by Somalia's newly established National Disability Agency (NDA), along with other emerging actors in the disability arena, with regards to how to address the perception that disability is primarily a humanitarian issue in a country that not only is in conflict but also faces cyclical humanitarian crises. A further challenge for the NDA is how to ensure that the humanitarian architecture put in place facilitates non-discrimination, as well as the inclusion of and participation by persons with disabilities.

This innovation challenge is looking for innovative data collection approaches that will generate action-oriented recommendations on how to make humanitarian programmes more inclusive of older people and people with disabilities.

UNICEF has released a call for good practices in data collection tools and practices on inclusion of children with disabilities in humanitarian emergencies. The purpose is to collect good practices so that they may be documented for humanitarian donors, humanitarian organizations, organizations of persons with disabilities (OPDs), and disability-focused organizations engaged in humanitarian action. 

• What are the possible topics of good practices? Good practices must relate to how data on children with disabilities is/has been collected and/or used within humanitarian settings between 2017 and 2022.

• Who can submit? Good practices can be from any organization working in humanitarian settings worldwide. Examples include but are not limited to UN entities, Clusters, OPDs, civil society organizations, nongovernmental organizations, private sector entities, government actors, or donor agencies.
• How many good practices can be sent? Individuals are welcome to submit as many good practices as they wish

OCHA previously launched with their partners the World Humanitarian Day (WHD) 2022 campaign, under the theme #ItTakesAVillage, it focused on how aid workers come together in a collective effort to bring help and hope to people caught up in crises.

Visit the campaign website (available in 6 UN languages) used to share content on social media channels. They also have Trello board with messaging, a campaign toolkit, templates and more. The WHD email signature and online meeting background were made available as well for dissemination.

by the WASH in Crises Research and Innovation Group

The WASH in Humanitarian Crises Research Agenda seeks to generate a consensus-based list of priority research questions that can steer investments in research among the WASH in humanitarian crises field up until 2030. Thus, they are asking staff of organisations and/or networks who reflect a broad spread of geography and areas of expertise in humanitarian programmes, to judge and prioritise a list a proposed research questions through an online survey.

The survey should take 1-2 hours of your time.
