Supporting, Engaging and Equipping Early Career Researchers

Together for Girls and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine have co-created a course to support early career researchers from countries that have completed a Violence Against Children and Youth Survey (VACS). This course will support, engage and equip early career researchers (post-doctoral, research fellow, research associate) to conduct research using VACS data and communicate findings to policymakers and key stakeholders.

Researchers working on child health, protection, violence, and child rights issues in universities or research institutions located in Colombia, Côte d’Ivoire, El Salvador, Honduras, Kenya, Lesotho, Moldova, Mozambique and Namibia are welcome to apply to join the first cohort of participants for this new course. Running from June to October 2023, the course includes 10 two-hour sessions delivered in English via Zoom approximately every 4-5 weeks. Session timings will be finalized with the cohort of selected participants based on time zones of participants and the teaching team.

Dr. Hilber's presentation focused on the National Social Accountability System in Health Assessment Tool (NSASHAT), tested in Rwanda and Malawi, which guides national governments and their stakeholders and partners through the five key SA domains in health and provides a scoring process for each domain. Implementation Science Collaborative (ISC) is a multi-stakeholder network addressing a range of health and development priorities through the better use of evidence to inform implementation. The ISC leverages USAID's Health Evaluation and Applied Research Development (HEARD) Project partnership to advance priorities across diverse thematic areas, such as woman-centered care, mental health and psychosocial support, protecting children from violence, and assistive technologies.
