Hello Folks,

It would be lovely to see you when I'm out on tour next week. Click below to book yourself a ticket... bring a friend! Two of the shows have support acts so come along and hear Mima Merrow in Glasgow and Olivia Rafferty in London. They are both fantastic. Mima's debut album is the perfect accompaniment to a winter evening, it's like a warm hug. Olivia's songs are Wes Andersonia for the ears. She's currently writing wonderful songs about geology. You know I love a science based song!

Thurs 16th Nov GLASGOW- CCA (Mima Merrow supporting)

Fri 17th Nov OTLEY- UPCO

Sat 18th Nov SHEFFIELD- Bishops’ House

Sun 19th Nov LONDON- Aces & Eights (Olivia Rafferty supporting)

Mon 20th Nov WHITHORN- The Swallow Theatre

Outsider
recording
continues steadily. The album and associated merch is available to pre-order from The Bothy Society and Bandcamp. I finished the lead vocals and acoustic guitars at Chem 19 with Jamie Savage a couple of weeks ago. Neil McColl is adding the electric guitars as I write and soon we'll be adding the final touches of backing vocals, fairy dust and science experiments. Also I'm very much looking forward to inviting three of the Crowdfunding legends to join me in a-whoopin' and a-hollerin' and a-clatterin' over some of the songs on the final day of the recording.

The last songwriting workshops of the year were a great success. Looking forward to more next year. The people who attended the Stages workshops have put together an album of their songs (Coming soon but pre-save/order here). It's brilliant. They are all songs we wrote on the week back in July. I love how a simple exercise can produce a songs that encompass so many genres. It proves my theory that it doesn't really matter what genre you drape over a song it still needs to have a strong melody and excellent lyrics. The genre's just a costume, it's the song underneath that matters. The next workshop I have in the books is in BEAUTIFUL Edale with Bella Hardy. There will be writing, singing, wandering, a concert and a trip to the pub.

My April tour is shaping up nicely. Do you want me to come and play at your local venue/club/pub/festival/darts tournament? No problem, just email Gail Cooke my agent and we'll sort something out.

Have a fantastic November. I hope to see you at one of the shows next week.

Cheers Fin

A Magpie Arc Anthology

In early 2024 we are setting off on tour with The Magpie Arc beginning at Celtic Connections on 30th Jan. Our first Scottish show! To celebrate the tour, the inevitable Celtic Connections madness and the launch of the 2nd Indoor Festival of Folk in February we've put together this anthology of the band's music. Download it, share it or gift it. It's available ONLY from our Bandcamp page. All the tour dates including full line up of Indoor Festival of Folk below.

Boo and I on stage at Eden Court opening for the "Stages: The Journey to Eden Court" concert. We teach loads of songwriting workshops together but we hardly ever get to play a show. We had a brilliant time!

Bookings are open for Bella Hardy's 2024 Edale songwriting retreat. The dates are 17th-21st June.

A schedule of group workshops, one-to-one masterclasses, co-writing opportunities, inspiring walks and delicious food combine to create a nurturing and intensive programme for songwriters of any ability. Whether you’ve just written your first songs and you’re hoping to develop further, or you’re a seasoned professional looking for new angles and techniques, this is the place for you.

There will also be a trip to the pub (HOORAY!), the opportunity to perform something you’ve written (if you want to), evening campfires, and free attendance at a concert by Bella and Findlay at Edale Village Hall.

It’s fully and deliciously catered by Bella’s favourite cook Ros Nield, so you can focus purely on making music.

More info here.

SPOTIFY MIGHT BE GETTING WORSE!

Oh no! They were already the baddies and now they're plotting to change the royalties structure. Something that will affect all non-major label artists. Read more here.

How can you help? Aside from the obvious things like coming to gigs and buying physical merch or downloads it turns out one of the biggest favours you can do an artist is to "follow" them on Spotify or "love" them on Apple Music. It's absolutely free and it's as painless as ticking a box. If you want to go above and beyond you could add a few of my songs to a playlist. You can like me on Spotify HERE (although I'm seriously considering making a stand removing my music from Spotify entirely... although that'll be like farting into a hurricane) and love me on Apple Music HERE.
