The Asian Studies Center at Michigan State University and the National Consortium for Teaching About Asia at the University of Pittsburgh are excited to announce the 2023 Teaching East Asia Foundational Summer Seminar for K-12 teachers and educators. This seminar brings together classroom teachers with a team of MSU faculty to explore ideas for teaching East Asia through art and literature.
Benefits for Participants All participants who complete the requirements of the program will receive a $300 stipend, $250 worth of free teaching resources, option for 30 SCECH hours (pending approval), and qualify as an alum for future NCTA short courses and study tours. We have limited funding to support lodging for participants who live more than 30 miles away from MSU East Lansing campus.
Who should apply? To be considered for this opportunity, applicants must be a K-12 educator from the following states: Alabama, Delaware, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. This summer's seminar may be up particular interest to those teaching art, literature, and/or history, but teachers of all subject areas are encouraged to apply if East Asia is in some way relevant to what you offer.

1. Richard Kichu & Joan Sojeon Moon Scholarship
Moon Scholarships awards $1,000 each to two qualified MSU students. Recipients will be selected based on academic performance and financial need. Special consideration will be given to the students who significantly have promoted an understanding of Korean culture.
2. David Cho Scholarship
Cho Scholarships awards $1,000 each to two qualified MSU students. Recipients will be selected based on academic performance and financial need. Special consideration will be given to either the students who have promoted an understanding of Korean culture or the students that are U.S. veterans, ROTC members, and/or active members of the military.
