Message from Fr. Nivin

Grateful and Thankful

In the second weekend of October (8th), I preached about stewardship. If you would like to read it again, you can click on the link to my blog at the bottom of this message.

What is the true spirit of stewardship? Gratitude.

This church, this beautiful church which allows us to worship and praise God did not come easy. Our forefathers built for them and for us, their future generations, with a lot of generous giving and loving sacrifice of time, talent and treasure. We must be grateful. Every time we step into this beautiful sanctuary, we must be thankful. They sacrificed and so must we. So that our future generations will enjoy what we are enjoying and will give thanks like we do now. The stewardship continues. The legacy lives on.

Our parish is always in need of volunteers. There is always room for more greeters, or ushers, at every Mass. We need more help for Family Faith Formation. We are blessed and grateful for the family who donated the full cost of replacing the sound system and we used our investment funds to pay off the HVAC replacement. Upcoming, our almost-a-century-old pipe organ, the bell tower, the roof and more parts of this grand old church building will need attention. I pray and hope more people will come forward to volunteer and to donate.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Theresa Lewis, who has decided to retire, and will relinquish her role as Family Faith Formation Director. Theresa has done a lot for our parish in the past eighteen months. She laid a solid foundation for our faith formation program, started the parish newsletter and spearheaded the stewardship committee, among other initiatives. We are grateful for all that she has done, we will miss her, but we wish her a well-deserved good rest and joyful retirement.

Happy Thanksgiving.
God bless.

Thanksgiving Mass

Join us at 9 AM on Thursday, Nov. 23 to thank God together on Thanksgiving Day!

NOTE: The office will be closed Nov. 23-24 and there will be no Mass on Friday, Nov. 24.

Advent is coming

December 3 begins this holy season. What will you do to keep Christ in this season?

Matching Gift Challenge

We received an important matching pledge for our youth ministry needs. The donor family will donate $2 for every $1 we collect, which means if we are given $6,000, they will donate $12,000. Any donation to CYC/NCYC is eligible for this matching. We are so grateful and thankful to this donor family! You can send your donation in the mail or click the button below and choose "St. Ambrose Cathedral - (CYC Sponsorship)" in the drop down menu.

Theresa Lewis Retiring

Theresa has been our Faith
Formation Director since May of 2022 and will be retiring at the end of this month. Within her short time here, she has done so much for our Faith Formation program, including expanding classes for all the grades and adding family faith encounters, a special time for families to encounter Jesus together. She led efforts to obtain laptops and technology for each classroom, more classroom space, and a new curriculum. She also established new funding sources through many fundraising opportunities for our youth and began our parish newsletter. While she is retiring from this position, she will continue to volunteer in the Faith Formation program. Please keep Theresa and our St. Ambrose parish in your prayers, as it will not be easy finding someone who can take her place!

Music in Sacred Liturgy

There are many opinions regarding the purpose of music within the Holy Mass and within other forms of liturgical Catholic worship. Read the article below from our interim music director, Marco Melendez, and learn what the Church and Vatican II declared with regards to the use of music in the sacred liturgy.

Walking with Moms

Thank you!

In October, we celebrated Respect Life Month by sponsoring a diaper drive. Thanks to your generous response, we were able to share diapers and wipes with the many families that came to the parish hall after the 11 a.m. Mass on October 22. Extra diapers and wipes were delivered to Mary’s Helping Hands. Thanks also to a friend of our parish who donated hats, gloves and winter coats to share with the children.

National Adoption Month

During the month of November, let us pray that each expectant mother making an adoption plan receive the support and care of the Christian community as she makes a loving choice for her child. To learn more about how to support women considering adoption, click below to read “Accompanying Expectant Mothers Considering Adoption,” from the US Council of Catholic Bishops. The USCCB also offers the St. Joseph Adoption Novena which seeks the intercession of the foster father of Jesus for those on the path of adoption.
