Dear Readers,
The question I’m asked more than any other is “When is your next book coming out?” You’ve come to expect a new book each year from me, since I’ve written nearly one a year for the past thirty years. But after pouring heart and soul into The Last House on the Street, I decided to take a break. I wanted to do a bit of traveling without that guilty feeling that I should be working. That was my plan, anyway. Then the pandemic hit and instead of traveling I read and did jigsaw puzzles. Not exactly what I’d had in mind for my sabbatical!
And then health problems started mounting up. I’ve been dealing with a few of those for most of my adult life (rheumatoid arthritis and lupus and their various complications, for example) but the last couple of years have been consumed by doctors’ appointments, physical therapy, tests, etcetera. I know that many of you can relate to what that’s like and how that ‘lifestyle’ leaves little room for creativity . . . or anything else. During the last few years, I’ve been so thankful for my supportive partner John, my friends who are always there for me, and my readers who daily keep me focused on all I have to be grateful for.
The good news is that one of the most worrisome health challenges now appears to be behind me and I feel like writing again. A story—a contemporary this time—is keeping me awake nights, which is always a good sign. I’m looking forward to digging into it and to—eventually--getting it into your hands. Meanwhile, let’s keep in touch. I’m happy to zoom with your book clubs as time permits and I’ll continue my daily rounds on Facebook and Instagram.
As a thank you for your patience, I think we should have a give-away. My assistant Kathy will pick five of you at random to receive an e-version of the book of your choice. If you’re on this newsletter mailing list, you’re entered. It doesn’t matter where you live.
Enjoy this early spring weather, and thanks, as always for your faithful readership. Diane
