Hello, My Dears!
I’m writing this at my little white writing desk, which is only notable because this time of year I would typically be out on the screened porch, where I live all summer (until the humidity pushes me back inside). But our neighbors have seven dead pine trees in their front yard, and earlier this morning the tree-eating monsters arrived. If you want your brain discombobulated in no time flat, spend some time outside while across the street bits and pieces of big trees are being fed into the maw of a diesel-spewing machine.
But I digress. We’ve got a podcast to talk about! This week, we’re spending time with Emmeline, who has become aware that the readers of her Farmer’s Wife column seem to be especially interested in reading about the members of the Wednesday Bee. In fact, she’s starting to think they’re more interested in hearing about Eula, Dorothy and the rest of the gang than any wisdom Emmeline might have to impart about quilts and quiltmaking.
When I was writing this chapter, I briefly thought about having Emmeline decide she should become a novelist and write a roman a clef about the Wednesday Bee. In essence, Emmeline would be writing a novel based on the novel that I’m writing! It’s actually a fun idea, but it’s also a little too meta for my brain at the moment, especially when someone’s cutting down trees across the street.
Just a reminder: I appreciate your feedback, especially when you catch my mistakes! Keep those comments coming, my dears!
I hope you enjoy this week’s episodes. Thanks as always for subscribing to the Story Guild. I couldn’t do it without your support!
