Hello, My Dears!
Two episodes for you today — one Forget-Me-Not and one Mad Quilter. As the new Milton Falls Quilt Museum takes shape, I’ll be interested to see how much (if any) the two stories overlap. It is a mindbender to think about it, quite honestly! I do have a short story I’m going to share with you one day that features Emmeline’s granddaughters, both in their 50s and both residents of contemporary Milton Falls. That was a fun one to write!
In today’s Forget-Me-Not episode, we’re spending time with Bess, who visits her first family as part of St. Luke’s new Family Aid program. One of the things I had to wrestle with was how much personal information Bess and Mrs. Semple (the woman she visits) would share. These days, we’re apt to tell our most terrible secrets to people we’ve known for a total of five minutes, but that wasn’t always the case. I hope I struck the right balance between what would and wouldn’t have been discussed between two women back in the day.
There’s trouble a-brewing in Diary of Mad Quilter this week. When Sheila tells Marnie that she wants to hire wayward daughter Emily as Thimble Pleasure’s bookkeeper, the conversation doesn’t go well. That’s another tricky bit of business, isn’t it, when you’re asked your opinion about your friends’ problem children? Marnie manages to keep her mouth shut most of the time when it comes to Emily, but in today’s episode she’s slightly less circumspect.
Big thanks to Jes for catching a mistake in last week’s episode. I found one myself in the last episode of Diary of a Mad Quilter. Please don’t hesitate to let me know when you come across an error — it’s super helpful!
I hope you enjoy this week’s episodes. Thanks as always for subscribing to the Story Guild. I couldn’t do it without your support!
