Hello, My Dears!
Does it feel to you like 2023 is rushing by? I can’t believe we’re halfway through May already. I also can’t believe we’re almost halfway through Forget-Me-Not! I’m anticipating that like Friendship Album, 1933, Forget Me Not will have fifty chapters and clock out at around 500 pages. 500 pages!
In this week’s episode, Eula is caught unawares a couple of times, which strikes me as unusual for our practical, clear-sighted friend. But sometimes even a wise woman like Eula can be so focused on one thing that other, rather obvious things simply slip by. (Am I being vague enough here?) Of course, Eula being Eula, she immediately takes herself to task for missing what’s right in front of her face and comes up with a plan to set things straight.
It’s fun to think what the other characters would do in a similar situation. Emmeline would deny it for as long as possible and then blame someone else for her mistake, while Florence might take months, even years, to determine whether she actually had a problem on her hands (Arthur Purefoy, anyone?). Bess would recognize the error of her ways and then ponder how the solution will affect everyone else in her circle. As for Dorothy … I think she’s most like Eula, except perhaps faster acting. It didn’t take her very long to recognize that Bess didn’t need her anymore, and once she realized it, she quit.
One of the things I’m thinking here at the (almost) halfway point is how each character has changed or is changing. How are they growing? How do their lives need shaking up? Eula is such a steady character that sometimes I think she needs a little more trouble in her life–trouble that’s not about someone else, but is hers and hers alone. Got any ideas of what might throw Eula off her steady pace through life? Let me know!
I hope you enjoy this week’s episode. Thanks as always for subscribing to the Story Guild. I couldn’t do it without your support!
