Welcome to this special edition

The VERU has launched our annual report for the past year.

This summarises some of the exceptional work we have accomplished over the past 12 months, including a review of our pilot project to tackle absenteeism in schools, the impact of some hard hitting campaigns as well as the work of our Youth Intervention Specialist team and commissioned projects.

A big thank you to all the VERU team and our partners for your support in achieving and delivering this great work to keep young people safe across Bedfordshire.

Plus, I wished to update you all about some changes in staffing at the VERU.

I am thrilled to have been accepted onto the College of Policing Executive Leadership Programme, alongside future Chief Constables.

I will remain as the VERU's director and will continue to lead the unit while I am on the programme, but I will understandably be taking a small step back from the day to day operations of the VERU.

The VERU team will remain in place and continue to deliver on the fantastic work we have already built over recent years. I remain incredibly proud of the thoughtful, diverse group of experts from all walks of life that we have pulled together in the VERU and the change we continue to make to prevent violence and exploitation in the county.

Cara Gavin, currently the early intervention project manager for the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC), will be taking on the VERU manager post in the interim. The senior leadership team in the OPCC will be supporting Cara and the wider work of the VERU more during this period.

This is an exciting time for the VERU, with two major projects due to launch later this month which we will provide further details of in our next newsletter.
