News

The Horizon Europe info days give to prospective applicants and other stakeholders of EU research and innovation the opportunity to get information and ask questions about the main funding instruments, processes of Horizon Europe. In particular, the event aiming to inform potential applicants about the funding opportunities of the 2023 calls of Horizon Europe Cluster 4 'Digital, Industry and Space' Work Programme 2023-2024 was held between 12th and 14th December. 

Under the pillar II of Horizon Europe, Cluster 4 focuses on digital, industry and space and aims to deliver on the following 6 Destinations matching the Strategic Plan:

• Climate neutral, circular and digitised production
• Increased autonomy in key strategic value chains for resilient industry
• World leading data and computing technologies
• Digital and emerging technologies for competitiveness and fit for the Green Deal
• Open strategic autonomy in developing, deploying and using global space-based infrastructures, services, applications and data
• A human-centred and ethical development of digital and industrial technologies.

On November 30 2022, EUCloudEdgeIoT took part in the AIOTI online webinar "IoT, Cloud, Edge Computing From Research to Deployment". The webinar presented and discussed some of the important topics that can help to understand how the Cloud-Edge-IoT transformation can be achieved from a research, policy and standardisation point of view and what resources and collaboration are needed to this purpose. Our initiative was present with two talks on the edge market evolution and its main drives (e.g.  latency and scalability) and the strengths of building an open ecosystem with an highlight on the relationship between open source and the emerging cloud-edge-IoT technologies.

But are European organisations ready?

The European Cloud, Edge & IoT Continuum is engaging with industry and business representatives from across Europe to understand the current status of technology uptake and demand-supply dynamics and define future market scenarios, pathways and demand-pull business opportunities.

If you are interested in joining the community of people from companies and SMEs that will share ideas and interests along the data-driven value chain, raise CEI demand and contribute with user requirements, do not miss our first wave of dedicated events. 

This series of online  events aim to practically present the activities towards the creation of an engaged community of VCA adopters and discuss about use cases and related requirements for the future uptake of such technologies so that relevant insights can guide future research and innovation in this field.

The events so far organised consist of an opening webinar and a wave of 5 sector specific workshops, all to be held between February and March 2023. 

Open Calls

As part of the Digital Europe Programme, large-scale pilot projects will be launched aiming at the deployment at scale of innovative, sustainable, secure and cross-border cloud-to-edge based services applied in a set of well-chosen application sectors. These deployments will serve the double objective of, first, being the first actual concrete implementations and deployments of the middleware platform and its different open source middleware solutions serving the needs of a specific application sector and use case and the gained experience should feedback into this separate process. Diversity, both in geography and use cases, of the retained large scale pilot projects, will therefore be key in testing the versatility and robustness of the platform. The second objective is to deploy additional cloud-to-edge services that are particularly innovative and/or not (yet) of enough general interest to be procured for the common good.

StandICT.eu 2023 has recently launched its 9th Open Call to fund and support participation of European standardisation specialists in key international and global SDOs and consortia. Included topics have been defined through monitoring and  analysis of the international ICT standards landscape and through liaison with Standards Development Organisations (SDOs), Standard Setting Organisations (SSOs) and other key organisations. The main topic for this Open Call will be “IoT, Cloud and Edge”. Applications will be accepted until 15th February 2023
