Guest Pastor. Once again we welcome Pastor Tom Struck as guest preacher. Thank you, Pastor Tom, for filling in while Pastor Dorothy is away celebrating the Cottinghams’ 36th wedding anniversary!

This month we are collecting PB&J (peanut butter and jelly and bread) for the food bank. We are also collecting new, packaged men’s underwear—sizes M, L, XL—and socks for Just Compassion. The quarter drive for Just Compassion’s laundry program continues as well. Drop quarters in the washing machine container on the table in the Narthex or write a check to the church and note Just Compassion on the memo line.

Singing This Week in Worship. We sing hymns to deepen our understanding of the Word we hear spoken. Be sure to read the commentaries our director of music, Tim Ditch, writes about each hymn. This week, Westminster Abbey plays a role in two of our hymns.

Listening Season. The promised Listening Season is upon us. Please respond to the email/mail and sign up to participate in this important season of sharing the hopes and dreams of the faithful community that is Christ the King Lutheran Church/Cristo Rey Iglesia Luterana. Welcome New Members! Next Sunday, September 17, is New Member Welcome Day. There will be a reception following worship.

Welcome our new members: Gail Gardiner; Terry, Liz, and James Walling; Jonathan Stolting; Jane Conner; Sara and Nora Simmers; and Sochiviny Sam (Cornutt).

Terry, James, Jonathan, Sochiviny, and Nora will become members through the sacrament of Holy Baptism. Gail, Liz, Jane, and Sara will become members by Affirmation of Baptism. Keep these beloved children of God in your prayers as they prepare to participate in this community of faith.

Quilters Meet. Quilting begins again Tuesday, September 19, at 9 am. Please enter through the Preschool (Haven Hall) doors.

Women of the Bible begins this Wednesday, September 13, at 7 p.m. on Zoom. Come along and meet the women who led Israel, followed Jesus, and helped shape the early church alongside Paul, Peter, and the other leaders.
