Just Compassion—Our Partner in Ministry and Mission. On Sunday morning we welcome Dawnell Meyer from Just Compassion. She will share with us how this coalition of religious, service, civic, and business organizations has joined together to network and share resources to help those who are houseless. Just Compassion provides three meals a day, overnight shelter beds, shower and laundry services, peer mentoring, and case management. The ultimate goal is to find housing for people who desire it.
On the first Sunday of the month, Just Compassion provides free laundry detergent and quarters, along with volunteers for patrons to talk with, to those who would like to wash their clothes. During July, we will be collecting quarters for the Just Compassion laundry day. Bing your quarters to church and drop them in the jar on the table in the Narthex. Alternatively, drop a check in the offering plate (or mail it to the office) and write Just Compassion on the memo line and we’ll exchange it for quarters. All donations will be gladly accepted!
Singing This Week in Worship. Take a few minutes before worship to read the commentaries on the hymns in your service folder. The hymns are carefully selected each week to fit the theme of the day and ground us more deeply in biblical truths.
Consultation to Congregation. Pastor Laurin Vance will begin his congregational listening season July 20 with the council. Over the next month or six weeks, we will be scheduling each interested member, non-member, former member, prospective member to meet with Laurin one-to-one. Please prayerfully consider your participation in this valuable time of reflection and rededication. Bless you all.
Still Looking for In-Person Technology Assistants. Pastor Dorothy will be away July 30, August 20, and September 10.
Pastor Joe Medley will bring us the word and sacrament July 30. Pastor Tom Struck will preach and preside August 20 and September 10. You are invited to step in to greet the visiting pastor and assist them in preparing for worship.
Are you one of those fearless folks willing to help with sanctuary set-up, assisting the pastor with microphones, and working with Tim to set up the Zoom Balcony, especially on the Sundays when Pr. Dorothy is away? You are invited to join the crew of tech assistants. It’s not as hard as it sounds. There are step-by-step instructions. It takes about 15 minutes between 9:30 and 9:45 on Sundays. Tim is on Zoom to help. Get in touch with Tim or Pastor Dorothy to sign up.
Parking Lot Guests. If you drive by the upper lot and notice an RV parked near the community gardens, you are meeting one of our overnight guests who are members of the travel website Harvest Host. Think of it as an AirBnB or Vrbo for RV travelers. Our guests stay only one night and make any size contribution to Christ the King through our website. There are about 10 reservations in place for July and August. If you see one of our guests, and are inclined to do so, please introduce yourself and welcome them to Tigard and Christ the King!
