Would that all God’s people were prophets and that the Lord would put the spirit on them! Numbers 10:2

It is an uncomfortable part of communal life, especially in religious communities, that we have an image of how God’s spokespersons should look or behave. Based on our perception, we then attempt to silence the voices of those who we think do not look or behave favorably. The perception might be based on age, gender, sexual orientation, alternatively abled condition, race, culture, or any number of “labels.” We unwittingly treat those who are different from us as if they cannot speak for God. What would it look like if all of God’s people were allowed … no, encouraged … no, joyfully invited to speak for God?
Even before a word is on my tongue, O Lord, you know it completely. Psalm 139:4
May our tongues speak only praise, thanksgiving, glory, and honor to God, no matter who we are. Come, Holy Spirit, come!
Thanks be to God!

Reconciling in Christ Celebration and Special Offering. This Sunday, May 28, your Wider Welcome Ministry Team invites you to celebrate our one-year anniversary of being a fully welcoming and inclusive congregation. We will be taking a special “noisy” offering on that day to support the ministry of Reconciling Works throughout the ELCA encouraging full welcome to all of our LGBTQIA and BIPOC siblings in Christ. You may make your contribution in person on May 28, online at tigardlutherans.com/donate, or by check to the Christ the King Lutheran Church/Cristo Rey Iglesia Luterana office. Just write RIC on the memo line of your check.

Welcome to the party! The Holy Spirit Is Upon Us! The tongues of fire are here! The whole assembly shouts for joy that the Spirit of the Living God has landed in the middle of the assembly! And, yes, there are those who assume the disciples are drunk … they are WRONG! There are those who believe these are NOT the ones who should be proclaiming the good news! They are MORE wrong! Come, join the joyful celebration!
Today we celebrate the anniversary of the day Christ the King/Cristo Rey opened our hearts and minds and doors to all of God’s beloved children, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, ability, or any other manifestation of diversity.
What Are We Singing This Week? Today we speak of a unified, loving, alive, and joy-filled church—a place where all are truly, fully, unquestioningly welcome. Thanks to Tim Ditch for the thoughtful explanations of our liturgy every week. Especially today, we are blessed by his musical spirituality and care in selecting music with depth of meaning. Take time to read the poetry of the hymns. They are grounded in biblical truths and completely appropriate to the theme of this day: All are welcome in this place! |

Ministry with Our Neighbors. This summer, the council has decided to partner with three community groups, supporting one group each month. June’s emphasis will be the Cascade Vineyard Food Bank (see Get a Head Start, below). In July, we will be learning about and assisting a group in Tigard that helps with those who are unhoused. August will find us assembling a kit or two to help refugees who are resettling and rebuilding lives here in the area through a group called Refugee Care/Restart. Watch for more information during the summer months highlighting these groups.
Get a Head Start. Since June is only a few days away, it’s not too early to begin collecting food and supplies for the Cascade Vineyard Food Bank. Drop your donations in the barrel outside the office doors, leave them in the office hallway, or call the office and we’ll arrange pick-up.
Just today we received this note from Pastor Glenn, our partner in this ministry:
We are experiencing a significant influx of people recently. Today we served 40 families. Oregon Food Bank is experiencing shortages, so CTK’s assistance comes at a crucial time.
Most needed items right now are:
Pasta and noodles (none are available) Macaroni and cheese Ramen, Cup o’ Noodles Rice Canned meat: tuna, chicken, spam, sardines, etc. Peanut butter Jam and jelly Spaghetti sauce Baby food Juice Canned meals: chili, SpaghettiOs, pork ’n’ beans, etc. Cooking oil Flour, baking products Crackers Olives Canned fruit |

Coming Soon: a series of adult forums on our worship practices: music, movement, lectionary, hymnody, texts, and much more. Question: Would you attend an in-person adult forum? Would you attend after church on Sunday or on a weekday evening? Please be in touch with the office with your response.
Book of Faith: Matthew meets Wednesdays at 7 p.m. on Zoom. All are welcome!

The American Red Cross is looking for volunteers to help on occasional Fridays registering blood donors here at Christ the King. The hours are 1:20 to 6:50 p.m. They would love to find two or three backup volunteers who can come in approximately once a month to help.
As a Red Cross registration volunteer, you greet donors, thank them for coming in, highlight their name on our schedule, make them a name tag, scan their ID into our laptop, and make sure they have completed their paperwork. You’ll also answer questions such as: Where are the restrooms? Do you have openings? When is the next blood drive?
Volunteers are trained in advance and/or on the day of the drive. There is always a team of Red Cross employees available to support the volunteer as well.
Typically, it’s one person per shift, but you could also work as a two-person team or divide up the time into two shifts (2.5-3 hours each). Volunteers must be comfortable writing and using a laptop, as well as sitting for the 5.5-hour shift.
If you’re interested, contact Jeanie at [email protected] or 503‑866‑2023.

Welcome one another, therefore, just as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God. Romans 15:7 |

|
Christ the King Lutheran Church/Cristo Rey Iglesia Luterana is a community of children of God who are seeking to know God by following the teachings of Jesus Christ, who welcomed all.
This community of faith is enriched and strengthened by diversity. We welcome all to share in the life and ministries of worship, sacraments, responsibilities, leadership, and blessings of participation in this congregation. We are committed to the work of racial equity.
Believing that God’s unbounded love and grace are offered to all and meant to be shared and celebrated by all, we embrace differences of age, race, ethnicity, language, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, physical and mental abilities, appearance, economic status, marital status, and family situation.
