[Jesus said] I will not leave you orphaned. John 14:18

These words of promise are spoken over dinner the night before Jesus was arrested, tried, and condemned to death. They are part of the Farewell Address in which Jesus lays out instructions for the disciples and promises that there will be an Advocate from God the Father. As we come to the end of the Easter Season next week, we enter another time of preparation. We prepared for the birth of Jesus through Advent. We prepared for the death and resurrection of Jesus through Lent. Now we prepare for Jesus to depart, again to be with the Father. But we are not left alone, we are not orphaned. In fact, all of today’s texts lift our hearts in praise, honor, and thanksgiving for the extraordinary greatness of God. Come, lift up your voices to the Lord!

Bless our God, O peoples, let the sound of God’s praise be heard. Psalm 66:8

Rainbow Alliance Supports Inclusion. The Wider Welcome Ministry Team invites you to join with us at a gathering of the Rainbow Faith Alliance on Sunday, May 21, at 7:30 p.m. This group meets monthly as an allyship within the Christian community to support inclusion. This month David Thompson will share the journey of his family with their transgender son.

The group meets at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, 17625 NW Cornell Road, Beaverton 97006. Refreshments will be provided.

How Is the Financial Situation at Christ the King? It is improving, thanks to your continued support. Bless you. The congregation council meets on May 18 at 7 p.m. on Zoom. We will be reviewing the current financials as we continue to make plans for the future of Christ the King. We are hopeful and we are realistic about where and how the Holy Spirit is leading us into the future.

Reconciling in Christ Celebration and Special Offering. On Sunday, May 28, your Wider Welcome Ministry Team invites you to celebrate our one-year anniversary of being a fully welcoming and inclusive congregation. We will be taking a special “noisy” offering on that day to support the ministry of ReconcilingWorks throughout the ELCA encouraging full welcome to all of our LGBTQIA and BIPOC siblings in Christ. You may make your contribution in person on May 28, online at tigardlutherans.com/donate, or by check to the Christ the King Lutheran Church/Cristo Rey Iglesia Luterana office. Just write RIC on the memo line of your check.
 

The Holy Spirit Is Upon Us! Be sure to join the party on May 28! The tongues of fire are on the way!
