1. In case you managed to miss the news, Twitter has rebranded to "X". The change is part of Elon's greater strategy to turn it into the "everything app" the way WeChat is in China. However, the rebrand's execution certainly feels hasty. To make things worse, photographer Gene X Hwang has had the handle @X since 2007 and Twitter took it from him, only offering some merch. Justice for Gene 🙏
2. Apple is apparently working on its own version of GPT internally, but hasn't decided how to release its generate AI tools to consumers yet. Our idea: make it so Siri can actually answer our questions instead of giving us a bunch of safari results 🤷‍♂️
3. Reddit continued their list of customer-alienating moves by deleting every message sent on the platform before 2023 😕
4. There is a new challenger in the Twitter (X) vs. Threads wars. TikTok is apparently rolling out support for Twitter-style text posts. Things are heating up 🔥
5. Thinking about a job in AI? Turns out there are about 4 states with all the big AI winners. Meanwhile, Netflix just listed an AI job with a base salary of up to $900k. And yes, it does happen to be a product manager position 👀
6. Meta, Microsoft, and Amazon are teaming up on their own open-source mapping project to compete with Google and Apple maps. Their goal is to compile data allowing third-party developers to use maps that don't rely on those two companies. The competition in big tech lately has been hot 💪
7. Amidst all the X nonsense, Google casually dropped news that 2 billion logged in monthly users have been watching Youtube Shorts. It appears that feature has been a smashing success 📈
