The product/tech world was a busy place this week and the Twitter Clone Wars are heating up. Let's get into the news:
- In case you missed it, Meta took its foolproof strategy of copying other social media features to a new level. This time, they cloned an entire app, dropping Threads, their Twitter competitor. However, there are a few key differences 🐦
- Beware. Perhaps the worst feature of Threads is that you can't delete your Threads profile without deleting your whole Instagram. So...think twice before you create that Threads account 🤷♂️
- Twitter founder Jack Dorsey's Twitter competitor, Bluesky, also hit its first million installs. Not a bad milestone but not exactly awe-inspiring considering Threads has already hit tens of millions of signups. Zuck ain't playing games 😤
- In case you missed it, while facing its biggest competition yet, Twitter added rate limits to its app. Yes...that's right. Instead of trying to make people use the platform more, they intentionally limited usage. Bold strategy 🤔
- Outside of Twitter world, OpenAI is still making big moves. They've just released GPT-4 to general availability! They also launched a "Superalignment" team, focused on ensuring AI systems don't go off the rails. Interesting... 🤨
