Apple WWDC
Usually, we put a list of 5-6 items here related to what happened this week. But, this ain't just any other week. This was WWDC week and Apple brought the FIRE
Vision Pro
By now you've probably seen something about the Apple Vision Pro release, whether it was a product demo, meme, or something else. This release was the talk of the town.
A few things stood out to us about this release:
- Of course, the $3500 price point is crazy. Very few people can justify that kind of spending on a tech product. We fully expect this to come down though as Apple releases more editions of this headset
- Something that flew under the radar is the fact that this new product also means a new operating system: visionOS. With that will come a new developer community, new tools, and new products. Sounds like an opportunity if you ask us.
- Apparently, this product took over 10 years and 40B to develop. This just shows how intense the product development cycle can be when releasing a game-changing tech product like this (especially if it is hardware).
For all the hype about the Vision Pro, one person didn't seem too impressed by the release... The Zuck.
Everything Else at WWDC
While Vision Pro got most of the attention, WWDC had a bunch of other great announcements. Here are a few worth knowing:
- Apple announced its new iOS 17. A few new features include a 'StandBy' view, locking Safari private browsing behind faceID, and more.
- As is tradition, Apple announced a few new features that will be instant killers for some startups out there. They are releasing their own Journaling app and also adding the ability to tap iPhones together to share contacts (basically like all those business card startups).
- They also announced a new macOS, new watchOS, and new tvOS at WWDC. We also realized how many different OS Apple has at this point.

Rest of the News
- This week, Snapchat announced additions to it's AI chatbot that allow it to return generated image snaps as well 📸
- Instacart added a ChatGPT supported AI search feature to its app, intended to help answer any of your grocery-related questions 🥕
- RIP Cortana. Microsoft announced that it will be discontinuing support and development of it's Alexa and Siri competitor 🪦
- TikTok is following in the trend of companies working to help get more money for their creators. This time, they're adding new features for creators to post paywalled content for their fans 🤑
- Reddit recently followed Twitter and made its API require paid access. Safe to say the customer reception for this decision has not been very good, as many major Reddit communities are going on virtual strike to protest the changes 😬
