Google I/O

Google held its annual I/O event and they brought the heat 🔥. Some of the key announcements included:

1. Look out GPT, Google introduced PaLM 2, their new robust Large Language Model. PaLM has various specialized classes of models that are optimized for different devices and use cases
2. Google's Bard Chatbot is now available to everyone. Check it out
3. Google has released a new Magic Editor for photos that leverages generative AI
4. Gmail is going to the next level, with AI support that helps you generate full emails, factoring in the context of your existing conversations
5. In some of the weirder news of the week, Google is partnering with Wendy's to create a chatbot that can take your drive thru order?!?! New TikTok drive thru prank trend incoming...

A lot more happened in the product/tech world this week:

1. Elon and Twitter appear to have invented their own user metric called "Unregretted User-Minutes". Essentially, he wants users to spend time on Twitter without looking back and regretting spending that time (like when I accidentally spend an hour on Tik Tok in bed at night). We're curious to see how he's going to measure this one. 🤔
2. Remember IBM Watson? That mf was doing AI before AI was cool and it looks like he's tired of hearing about GPT. IBM announced new AI features this week including Watsonx, which it describes as an "enterprise studio for AI builders" 🏗️
3. It wouldn't be a week in tech without Meta copying another social media's features. This time, in order to compete with TikTok, Meta is experimenting with compensating creators based on views on their content 🔎
4. Amazon is rolling out a new product called Amazon Anywhere which allows video games, virtual worlds, and mobile apps to integrate "immersive shopping experiences". Essentially, creators/developers can more easily sell their products in their apps and games, leveraging Amazon's existing e-commerce technology. Goodbye Fortnite skins, Hello Amazon basics shirts 🥳
