Department of Product is a company focused on courses and materials to teach product people the skills they need to succeed in their career. This week, they dropped their "State of Product Survey 2023" which you can find here. It's a quick read with some interesting information including:
- What qualities hiring managers look for most when hiring PMs
- The top 5 tools being used today (and also the rising stars 🌟)
- Details about product salaries, company financial performance, and product development processes
- 83.5% of respondents said their company has been impacted by layoffs

A lot happened this week so let's dive in!
- Useful Resource: Check out this useful resource from HubSpot's blog about the Critical Path Method and how to use it to improve your project management processes 🔥
- It seems like every week there's new AI news at this point. This week, OpenAI opened up it's ChatGPT API and it's surprisingly cheap. This opens up a whole new world of possible product features as ChatGPT can now be integrated into anyone's app. 🌎
- TikTok added a new 1-hour screen time limit for users under 18 years old. Of course, users can just click a button to continue 🤦 but TikTok's theory is that they will be forced to make an active decision about continuing on the app. We'll leave it up to you to decide if they truly have good intentions or are just trying to butter up the government to avoid getting banned 🤔
- Check out Meta's AR/VR roadmap for the upcoming years. It includes plans to release a pair of smart glasses along with a neural interface smartwatch as soon as 2025, with AR glasses coming in 2027. Sadly, to no one's surprise, they plan to bring ads to Augmented Reality 😒
- Youtube's new CEO wrote this blog post about Youtube's 2023 priorities and future goals 🔮
