As the Nobel Prize announcement week draws to a close, one particular award is especially relevant to the readers here. Alain Aspect, John Clauser and Anton Zeilinger have been awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics for pioneering work in quantum information science.

Alain Aspect is from the Université Paris-Saclay and École Polytechnique, Palaiseau, France, Anton Zeilinger from the University of Vienna, Austria while John F. Clauser is from Walnut Creek, California with past affiliations with Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and University of California at Berkeley.

IonQ  (NYSE: IONQ), has won a $13.4 million contract to supply the Air Force Research Lab (AFRL) with access to its trapped ion systems for quantum computing hardware research and for the development of quantum algorithms and applications.

Oxford Quantum Circuits (OQC), UK-based quantum computing company, and Cyxtera (NASDAQ: CYXT), a data center colocation and interconnection services with 60 locations globally (including Silicon-Valley), announced that their UK Data Center customers will soon have direct access to OQC’s quantum computers reducing latency times for quantum algorithms and use cases.

Last week, Cloudflare was the first Content Delivery Network (CDN) to announce its this post-quantum cryptography solution for all its customers free of charge.

What does this mean?

Somewhere in the next many years, “a sufficiently powerful quantum computer is expected to be built that will be able to decrypt essentially any encrypted data on the Internet today, “ write Cloudflare Research Engineers, Bas Westerbaan and Cefan Daniel Rubin in their blog. Based on this scenario, Cloudflare is pre-emptively providing its post-quantum cryptography solution to its customers. ...

UKQuantum Open Up Membership to All Players

UKQuantum is an industry and government consortium representing UK’s quantum computing industry. The UK is on the path to investing over £1 billion in quantum technologies through its National Quantum Technology Programme. Original founding members of the consortium include BT, Orca Computing, Oxford Instruments, and Nu Quantum. With this week’s announcement, UKQuantum will open its membership to all players. ...
